Fake Images & Videos
What are deepfakes?
Deepfakes are images, videos, or audio recordings that have been created or altered by AI. They look so real that you can barely tell the difference from genuine recordings. For example, AI can put a person's face into a video where they never appeared.
How do you recognize deepfakes?
Pay attention to details: Do the shadows match? Do the lips move exactly in sync with the sound? Does the skin look unnaturally smooth? Do the edges of the face flicker? And the most important question: Who published this and why? A reliable source or an unknown account?
How to protect yourself
Check the source! Does the image come from a reputable news site or a random social media account? You can also use reverse image search: right-click on the image and search for the original. Never share content if you're not sure about it.
Detective Tip: There are already AI tools that can detect other AI images! But they're not perfect. Your own judgment is still the best: if something sounds too crazy, it probably isn't real.
